Confirmation, together with Baptism and Eucharist, form the Sacraments of Initiation that are all intimately connected. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is "sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit" and is strengthened for service to the Body of ChristThe Diocese requires two years of Sacramental prep in order for students to receive the Sacrament. Students start preparing for Confirmation in the 9th grade through our Households of God Faith Formation program. Confirmation is ordinarily received in the fall after they have completed 10th grade.

Note to parents of 9th/10th graders!If you have a child in 9th or 10th Grade who has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation, this message is for you!Households of God is a new initiative for sacrament preparation, which is intended to facilitate a natural sharing within the family between varying ages and places on the journey while still giving each person what they need to grow in faith. This includes parents and children, those who are preparing to receive sacraments for the first time and those who receive them regularly, those whose spiritual lives are rich and those whose spiritual lives are in need of enrichment! The materials we use include different activities for different age levels while focusing on the same theme. Our goal is NOT to have any burdensome "homework" outside of the meeting times, though there may be some suggested learning or activities to continue to deepen a lesson or establish a new habit. As a mother of seven, I appreciate that less can be more in a busy family, if the "less" is meaningful and focused.Many students celebrated Confirmation or First Communion the last few years with a minimum of in-person formation, which is definitely not ideal. We are a Community of Faith, and we learn our faith within the community! But the family is the first community, and the place where the Faith is passed on most deeply, because Catholicism is a way of life and not just a subject to study! We live our lives of faith not just in the pew but in the family and the community. Gathering families together can help make faith relevant to our everyday lives and teach more than facts. This format makes learning about the faith personal and integrated into the fabric of daily life and daily relationships.Households also helps limit exposure, build relationships, deepen the fellowship between families, and expand the confidence of everyone to talk about what matters most. With large gatherings only once a month, and groups of only 3 or 4 families meeting another time during the month, it is easier to limit contact with those who might be ill. It is our hope that, with only a few families involved in each Household, gatherings can more easily be scheduled at a time and place that works for everyone.How can you learn more?
